Chapter 4
The next few days were harsh on the two pok'emon. The had to struggle through the countless vicious sandstorms, hide from wild Cacnea, Baltoy, and Trapinch from their clan, not to mention flee from the local trainers who wanted to catch them or battle them for experience. On the tenth day away from the nest, they began to get low on their food supply. Flare didn't want Panda to go hungry so she found a safe cave in the side of a nearby cliff and told her to hide there until she got back.
She had only gone a few meters away when she spotted a patch of trees. She knew that she had to get back to Panda as soon as possible and where trees were there were probably berries and other edible fruits. So she hustled over to the small grove and began to hunt for something to eat.
Luckily, the grove she had found was very plentiful. She had stumbled on a treasure trove of delicious berries that fill the belly with just the taste. She was finding Cheri, Oran, Pecha, Sitrus, and many other strange berries that were just right for the picking.
She was about ready to go back to her hungry friend when she heard a group of ominous growls. She turned slowly around and saw a group of fierce, scary-looking Poochyena.
"Drop the fruit and step away," barked the leader of the pack. "A friend of mine needs them," she clicked back. "Oh, I'm sorry. Go on your way." She turned back around and began to pick more berries.
Suddenly she was tackled to the ground. "Just because your 'friend' needs them doesn't mean you can just waltz right into our berry patch and snatch them from right under our noses. I challenge you to a wild fight," the leader smirked. "What is that?" asked Flare. "What are you, stupid or something? It is where two or more wild poke'mon fight each other until one faints or gives up." "Oh, I know those. Then I accept!"
"The prize will be the pile of berries that you picked. If you win, you get the berries. If we win, you have to leave the berry grove, forever." "Fine, let's go!" "Yes," the leader barked. "Let's begin." The group surrounded Flare and let the leader into the circle. "Ready?" he snapped as he stood in his attack pose. "Sure." "Then let's............start!" he roared as he sprayed a cloud of sand at her trying to blind her. "That's the oldest trick in the book, pooch. Take this!" she screeched, biting him on the tail. He retaliated by kicking her to the edge of the circle. "Is that all you got?" "No, take this too!" She leaped into the air, landing squarely on his back. This continued on and on until both of them were exhausted. Just as the Poochyena was about to bite her one last time he fell to the ground, fainted. She looked at the rest of the pack angrily. "Take him away and get out of my sight. And stay away from me from now on." They grabbed him and put him one one of the member's backs. They then took off, running away yelping.
The battle had been very hard on Flare. She was sore and tired and wanted to be home. She decided to take a short nap to recover her health before she went back to Panda. As she drifted into welcome sleep, she began to dream. The dream was strange and scary to her. She was in a land of eternal darkness.
